Standard Beer + Food

This is the best kid friendly restaurant & bar in Raleigh! There is a great outdoor area in the back that is both kid & dog friendly. It is also right next to this beautiful community garden that has a big open grass area that kids can run around in while parents can enjoy one of their amazing drinks! I love the QR codes and how easy & fast it is to order food & drinks. Customer service has always been so nice. We highly recommend this place! *picture* - a frozen painkiller!! This drink will teleport you to your favorite beach - It's really magical.

Standard beer and food is a nice little bar restaurant on Person Street near downtown. They have plenty of seating inside and outside with a decent food menu and huge drink selection. The service is great with friendly staff members. They have the best fried chicken sandwich I think I have ever had in my life. It’s just juicy and delicious. The tater tots are next level greasy tho, I would avoid those and have their shoestring fries instead. Great spot overall with fire pits and plenty of out door seating.

My first time in here was crazy busy and we had to share a table with another couple. There was a tiny learning curve figuring out how to use their ordering system, you’re gonna want your smartphone, but if I can get through the process I like everybody’s chances of figuring it out. Once I figured it out, ordering was easy and we just sat there ordering plates and drinks from my phone and the food/drinks showed up quickly after. No need to try to get a server’s attention in a very busy place. Food was great drinks were great. It was awhile before I returned on a Saturday afternoon way before any rush and sat at the bar. Ordering from the bar is old school so if you’re technically challenged and there’s a place at the bar that might be your move. Anyway, my second trip in was to try the Standard Smash Burger after its inclusion on Raleigh Magazine’s top 10 Burgers List. After trying it I definitely understand why it made the list. So good. I’m guessing by the texture and fat/salt content they are grinding the meat in house. It’s seasoned perfectly, on the greasy side of wonderful, and has more texture than most fine ground beef but at the same time falls apart better with a bite. Cheese and sauce make an already juicy burger decedent. The onion and pickles are a totally necessary addition of acid to balance the fat. Finally the burger arrives wrapped in a fast food wrapper that does a terrific job steaming the bun. This is a throwback burger. A time traveling burger from a time when fast food was often delicious food. A burger of nostalgia. Oh, and my wife got the tacos and loved them. We will be back…

Food and atmosphere were great. Not sure if it was because it was busy for a Wednesday, but one of the people at our table didn't get his food until the other 3 were almost done. Also had to flag someone down to get a water refill because some tables had self serve water bottles for refills but ours didn't. Will absolutely be back.

This is a really great place for food and beer. They have great space to bring friends and family. My last visit here I could hear some woman screaming profanities in the kitchen at the staff for almost ten minutes straight and it really rubbed me the wrong way, as I had brought my family and their children, and have worked in the industry for a decade. Maybe it was a one off but the whole restaurant could hear and berating your staff like that is just cruel and a little psychotic honestly. Great smash burger though!!:)
